Our week in Owls beginning 30.10.23

Date: 8th Nov 2023 @ 9:35pm

Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn Term.  This half term our theme is Percy the Park Keeper. We will be learning about seasonal change and British woodland animals.  We will also be learning about certain celebrations this half term e.g. bonfire night, remembrance, Hannukah and of course Christmas!

This week we celebrated Halloween and Autumn by creating and lighting up a pumpkin, making pumpkin collages, Halloween yoga and carrying out some apple themed activities. The children were all very excited about celebrating further during the Halloween disco, we hope they had a fun time!

In Maths we have been learning about comparing sets and identifying when a group has more or fewer objects. It is great to see the children's confidence in using mathematical language increasing, well done Owls! We have also been working on making repeating patterns. We even made a repeating pattern with our fruit for snack.

Our Phonics sessions have been consolidating the sounds that they have already learnt and continuing to develop the skills of blending to help them read and write words. We have used a range of games and activities to support this such as hooking ducks from Percy's pond and reading the sounds that were on their bottoms (They found this highly amusing), planting plants in Percy's pots after reading the word on each one. matching short words to pictures and mark making using the whiteboards. In Literacy we read the story of 'Percy and the Storm,' and the children began a range of activities linked to this, such as drawing Percy's woods and cutting and sticking the woodland animals in it and drawing the main characters and other characters in the story, as well as enjoying our new role play and small world area.

In Forest School, the children got a little wet! Thank you weather! However, it did not stop us. We made potions in the mud kitchen area, hammered nails into a pumpkin and hooked on elastic bands, climbed through a huge spider web Helen made between the trees, painted ghosty leaves and created spider necklaces. Such a busy session!

Well done to the start of Autumn 2 Owls! You are all amazing!
