Hazelbury Bryan School Hosts Successful Race Day for All Ages

Date: 7th Oct 2025 @ 12:10pm

Hazelbury Bryan, Dorset – October 5th, 2025

The sun was shining on Hazelbury Bryan School on Sunday, October 5th, as the community came together for the highly anticipated Race Day, a spirited 5km and 10km event designed to raise funds and bring families and friends together in support of the school.

Organised primarily by Mrs Needham, Mrs Griffin (PTFA) and Mrs Hart (Parent Governor), with a band of dedicated helpers. The event was a triumph of community collaboration and energy. The day featured two race options—5km and 10km—to welcome both seasoned runners and those just in it for fun, fitness, and a good cause. Additionally, there was an opportunity for the younger children to take part in a fun run on the school field (organised by Mrs Henry, PTFA) challenging themselves to complete as many laps as possible. All children who completed this were given a certificate for their participation. It was truly lovely to see so many of our younger children giving this a go and embracing the joy of exercise!

It was lovely to meet some members of the community who came along to cheer on the runners and just to have a look at the school and the work we are doing here. Thank you to everyone who chose to support this.

Whilst we are grateful to everyone who gave up some or all of their time for the event, we would like to say a particular thank you to those who came and helped set up on the Saturday, particularly Mrs Massey, Mrs Rowland, and Mrs Colmer. Their efforts helped ensure the day ran smoothly.

A heartfelt thank you also goes out to the parent marshals who lined the course and ensured runners were safe and cheered on at every turn. Among them were Mr Hollingsworth, Mrs Sharp, Mr and Mrs Calderbank, Mrs Horne, and Mr Read. A special thank you to Mr Smith for his excellent starting and finishing of all the races and his guidance throughout the process. As well as the hand made, environmentally friendly medals created for all those that took part.

Beyond the school community, the event drew generous support from local residents who volunteered their time—some even without children at the school. Many helped with marshalling duties or served refreshments, showing the true spirit of community involvement.

Local Business Support

The event wouldn’t have been possible without the generous backing of local businesses, whose sponsorship and donations provided critical support:

  • Dorset Charcoal Company

  • WJ Hart Specialist Decorator

  • 4D Signs

  • South West Wills and Probate

  • Kings Stag Garage

  • Northover Energy

  • Homefield Farm Vets

  • Piers Closier Fencing

  • Pizzetta

  • The Victorian Barn

Their contributions helped fund race materials, refreshments, and ensured that proceeds from the event go directly toward supporting Hazelbury Bryan School projects and enrichment opportunities for pupils.

A Community Celebration

The atmosphere on race day was electric, with families, children, and even a few four-legged friends joining in. Whether running, walking, cheering, or helping behind the scenes, every participant played a role in making the day such a success.

The Race Day not only raised valuable funds but also showcased the incredible power of community coming together for a shared goal—something that Hazelbury Bryan School can be proud of. Please see our facebook page and gallery area on our webiste for photographs showcasing this special event.
