Hawks' Autumn 2 Blog

Date: 19th Nov 2021 @ 3:13pm

Week 1

We started our new Science topic- sound. To kick start our new topic, we predicted which locations within the school would be the loudest and the quietest. We then went on a sound walk around the school to see if our predictions were correct. We listed all the sounds we could hear.

Week 2

This week the most exciting and extraordinary thing happened outside of our classroom. An unidentified (suspected flying) object crash-landed!! We put our reporter's hats on and went out to investigate the scene. We even had to interview witnesses, which included Mrs Waring!

Week 3

In Design and Technology, we are currently exploring bread. In order to research existing bread products, we decided it would be best if we could actually eat some bread. So that is what we did! In Science we have been continuing our learning about sound. Hawks created their own musical instruments using recycled materials and used these to help them explain how their instrument made noise- vibrations.

Week 4

In RE we have been learning about the Nativity story in lots of detail. This week we focused on the birth of the baby Jesus. We discussed and acted out Mary and Joseph trying to find a place to stay, and also painted watercolour scenes of the stable once the baby had arrived. We also played a variety of different Maths games to consolidate our learning so far this year.

Week 5

This week was the end of our Ukulele lessons. We have all thoroughly enjoyed learning to play this instrument and loved being able to perform to the rest of the school. We also learnt about the Christingle and made our own which we took to Church for a service on Friday.

Week 6

We concluded our Science topic 'sound' by conducting an experiment outside using musical instruments to investigate the relationship between distance and sound.

Week 7

Another extremely busy week in Hawks! We began the week with a trip to church to perform 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree' in the carol concert. This week we also got to put all of our bread knowledge from this term to good use as we made our very own pitta bread. Of course, we had to try it once it was cooked to make sure it tasted good! We also had a visit from a cheeky elf, had a Christmas party in the hall and made lots of Christmas crafts.
