Final week of half term!

Date: 26th Apr 2022 @ 8:56pm

One our last week of term, we enjoyed our last forest school session.  We explored charcoal drawing, den building, whittling and bug hunting. The children really have learned a lot at forest school throughout the half term and it was great to see them trying out their new skills in their exploring time.

We also learnt about Easter and enjoyed making an Easter garden with crosses on the hill, Jesus’ tomb and a guard (fir cone) was added to keep his body safe.

In Maths we learnt about subtraction and the children have enjoyed many subtraction games and activities. They have been recording their calculations in number sentences, great work Owls!

The week was also full of Easter fun!

The children loved taking part in different Easter activities. We had some coloured eggs out that the children had to decorate by using their pincer fingers. They chose feathers, wool, glass beads, coloured beads and foil paper to make colourful eggs. Some children even made them symmetrical.

We also made ‘Easter Nests’ by melting chocolate and scrunching up shredded wheat. The children then spooned the mixture into cake cases and added three mini eggs. They explored different vocabulary related to heating, mixing, melting and scrunching.

Throughout the week, they also completed easter egg repeating patterns, they had to look carefully at the start of the pattern and then continue it.

Additionally, they had been completing dot to dots and easter colourings, as well as making easter cards.

In Phonics, the children had been searching in the sand for eggs using tweezers and reading the words on them using their fantastic segmenting and blending skills.

The children were also working on their balancing and timing skills by spooning out eggs from a spider webbed basket and placing them in an Easter basket all within 1 minute.

Finally we watched Easter Magic. The children each planted a magic bean in soil and sprinkled on some magic glitter dust. We left them outside in the moonlight and under the stars and the next morning they had grown into chocolate lollies. WOW! What amazing Easter magic. The children were super excited.

As a special treat, we also had a wonderful visit from the Sturminster Newton Fire Brigade. The children had such a wonderful time learning about what firefighters do, the different equipment on the fire engine and they even got to sit in the engine. A fantastic opportunity and we are super grateful to them all.

A very busy week but lots of eggtastic fun! A very busy term, well done Owls!
