Barn Owls Summer 1

Date: 8th May 2022 @ 10:27pm

Week One - 25th-29th April

Welcome back for the Summer term. This week we introduced our new topic - Spring. We have enjoyed reading and exploring the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. As a class we will be learning number recognition, counting, days of the week, nutrition and the life cycle of a butterfly. We even have our very own caterpillars in class, so we can watch as they grow into beautiful butterflies.

Week Two - 2nd-6th May

This week we have created a story map of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We have practiced reading together and incorporated our own actions. The children have come up with some fantastic descriptive words, such as crunchy, juicy and sweet. Please see the picture below in our gallery if you would like to have a go at home.

As well as lots of outside play, exercise and activities we have also enjoyed joining Jamie at Cosmic Kids Yoga for her take on The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Week 3 - 9th-13th May

This week has been Mental Health Week. We have enjoyed lots of music, dance and fun activities, focusing on the importance of our mental health. The children have joined the rest of the school in adding their handprints to our new wall mural.

Please feel free to visit the school playground to take a look at our amazing art work.

Week 4 - 16th-20th May

This week the weather has been beautiful. We have spent lots of time outdoors enjoying the weather and nature. Barn Owls have particularly enjoyed playing with the large construction vehicles and the water table.

We had a very special visit from 2 orphan lambs, Calub and Findley, on Wednesday. The children all got a go at stroking and bottle feeding the lambs

On Friday the village toddler toddler group, Baby Owls, joined us for a play in our classroom. We enjoyed lots of sensory activities, including painting and Spaghetti. We also had a sing-a-long together with musical instruments.

Week 5 - 23rd-26th May

This final week of the half term has seen us learning all about our Queen, Elizabeth II. We have enjoyed watching Jubilee, a short animated film about the Queen’s hat. We explored different London landmarks and created our own Big Ben using a variety of construction materials.

On Thursday we all got together in our jubilee outfits for a tea party and games. We played pass the Union Jack, welly throwing, pin the crown on the Queen and sleeping soldiers.

We were also very excited to be able to release our butterflies and watch them fly away.

We hope you all have a lovely half term and Queen’s jubilee weekend.
