A visit from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service

Lesson: Curriculum

We were very lucky to have a visit from Jon Sweet (Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service) and firefighters from Sturminster Newton Fire Station. Jon carried out workshops with each class to help make them aware of how to stay safe in the event of a fire or to prepare incase of an emergency. Jon used a range of resources, technology and activities to engage the children, all tailored to the age he was with. The children learnt ditties to help them remember safety information such as, 'stop, drop and roll,' 'get out, stay out, call 999" and "matches, lighter never touch, they can hurt you very much." Alongside Jon's workshops, we had a visit from the local fire crew and a fire engine. Each class had the opportunity to listen to a firefighter explain all about the equipment kept on the engine, what emergencies they attend and were shown different tools used.

Thank you so much to Jon and the Sturminster Newton Fire and Rescue Service for giving their time, the children had a fantastic experience and really enjoyed learning all about the role, the engine and how to stay safe.
