Spring term

Date: 13th Feb 2026 @ 10:53am

The Spring Term has certainly been an eventful one at Hazelbury Bryan Primary School, packed with excellent learning opportunities and memorable experiences for all of our children.

One of the real highlights was our People Who Help Us Week, when we invited members of our local community into school to share their roles and experiences. We were absolutely delighted by the generosity of those who gave up their time to inspire our pupils.

Mandy, a dental hygienist, visited to talk all about dental health. She explained what her job involves, how to care properly for our teeth and why it’s so important. The children were fascinated to learn which foods are tooth-friendly — and which ones aren’t!

Mr Phillips kindly gave up his morning to speak about engineering. He explained what civil engineers do, the different types of engineering careers available, and even what life might be like without engineers. The children listened beautifully and asked some truly thoughtful questions.

We were also thrilled to welcome local author Lizzie Lockier into school. She shared her journey to becoming a writer, talked about the books she has written and explained why she loves what she does. The children were captivated when she read her current story, Ellie’s Positive Pants. Inspired by the book’s uplifting message about bravery and positivity, the children created wonderfully imaginative “positive pants” artwork for a competition to win a signed copy. We were overwhelmed by their creativity!

Mr Dunlop also visited to talk about his career as a lawyer and his company, Blanchard’s Bailey. He explained how he supports clients in court and why he finds his role so rewarding. Once again, the children impressed us with their excellent listening and thoughtful questions.

What an amazing week it was. The curiosity, enthusiasm and depth of questioning from the children made us incredibly proud. A huge thank you goes to all of our visitors for igniting such excitement — and especially to Mrs Ings for organising such a fantastic week.

Barn Owls Class also had a wonderful visit from Little City. The hands-on play experience encouraged imagination, teamwork and joyful learning as the children explored different roles within a miniature city setting.

Our young engineers have been equally busy in their Design and Technology lessons, designing and building their very own lighthouses. The creativity and attention to detail has been fantastic to see. Next week, the project moves even further as the children link their learning to Science by wiring up real working lights for their lanterns — very exciting!

We also celebrated Number Day by splitting into house teams and taking part in a variety of number-related activities throughout the day. The classrooms were buzzing with energy and enthusiasm.

On 11th February, we were delighted to welcome Flis from The Art of Brilliance, who led workshops across the school focusing on resilience, positivity, kindness, gratitude and wellbeing. The children loved working in their house colours and learning through interactive games and clips. It was a truly uplifting day.

Meanwhile, our football team travelled to Milton on Stour Primary School for the second round of the Davison Cup. It was a thrilling match, finishing 1–1 with a brilliant solo goal from Billy. Extra time saw another well-taken finish from Riley, bringing the score to 2–2. The match went to penalties, where we emerged 3–2 winners, with Huw calmly taking the winning kick and Jamie making some excellent saves. The boys showed superb sportsmanship and determination throughout and represented the school with pride. We now look forward to the third round!

As always, we are so proud of our children — not just for their achievements, but for their curiosity, kindness and enthusiasm for learning. Thank you to our staff, families and wider community for your continued support. It truly makes a difference.

We look forward to sharing more news with you next term!
