Spring 2 Hawks

Date: 27th Mar 2026 @ 12:14pm

What a fantastic and busy half term we’ve had in Year 3/4! The children have shown great enthusiasm across all areas of learning, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence, curiosity, and teamwork continue to grow.

This half term, we travelled back in time in History to explore the fascinating world of the Ancient Maya. We learned about their daily lives, impressive achievements, and the incredible cities they built deep within the rainforest. The children were particularly interested in Maya writing and number systems, and they enjoyed creating their own Maya-style glyphs.

In Science, we have been investigating forces and magnets. The class carried out a range of exciting experiments to explore pushes and pulls and to test which materials are magnetic. They made thoughtful predictions, recorded their findings carefully, and developed their skills as young scientists while discovering how magnets can attract and repel.

Our Art lessons focused on landscape studies, where the children explored different techniques to create depth and texture in their work. They experimented with colour blending and composition to produce some beautiful pieces of artwork, showing great creativity and attention to detail.

In English, we read The Great Kapok Tree, which inspired a range of fantastic writing. The story encouraged us to think deeply about the importance of the rainforest and the impact humans can have on the environment. The children produced persuasive texts, descriptive writing, and carried out their own research on rainforests around the world. They showed great maturity when discussing how we can help protect these vital ecosystems and why they are so important for our planet.

It has also been an exciting half term for sport, with many pupils taking part in football fixtures. They demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship, and we are very proud of their positive attitude and effort both on and off the pitch.

Overall, it has been a brilliant half term filled with creativity, curiosity, and hard work. We are incredibly proud of everything the children have achieved and look forward to more exciting learning next term!
