Science Week

Date: 22nd Mar 2023 @ 3:36pm

We had a great time during British Science Week!  We started off the week with an assembly exploring the theme of the week, which was ‘Connections’. We sent a message across the hall using a balloon and the children had to decide whether this method was as good as the more conventional methods we use to send messages and make connections with people.

In their classes the children have been enjoying spending extra time exploring science.  They have carried out fun activities to encourage a love of science, develop knowledge of famous scientists and tackle stereotypes.

Owls class have been experimenting with colour, making their own rainbows by adding different colours to fabric and submerging them in water, observing the colours ‘drifting’ into one another. They have also been exploring electrical circuits to make a bulb light.

Kestrels class have been have been monitoring the weather in Hazelbury Bryan using their own rain gauges and windsocks. One day this week it was so blustery some windsocks escaped and flew over the school!

Hawks class have been exploring how water is transported through plants by using food colouring as well as air resistance.   They made a parachute to try and safely land an egg without it breaking! They have also been challenging stereotypes around different scientists.

Eagles class researched scientists that challenge stereotypes, explored mixing different substances together to observe the reactions which involved fizzy colours and plastic! They also made connections with our natural world through art.

We all came together at the end of the week to share our learning and discoveries!
