Owls Spring Adventures

Date: 15th Apr 2026 @ 12:41pm

Throughout the Spring term, Owls class have enjoyed learning about ‘Traditional Tales,’ and ‘Around the World.’ We have had some wonderful activities to support our learning and make it purposeful such as in ‘Around the World,’ the children enjoyed our focus book of ‘My Granny goes to market.’ They have learnt about different countries, different transports and this has been woven into their learning of phonics, maths, PE and much more. The children have enjoyed a market role play where they had to buy and sell items, a small world area with Granny’s magic carpets and market stalls, as well as exploring a range of books from countries around the world. They have painted magic carpets and made them from paper, adding repeating pattern tassels to link in with out maths. Throughout the topic they have made lanterns, looked and understood a map and located certain countries, gone on welly walks and thought about different magic carpet movements as well as made nesting dolls. We then explored Handa Goes To Market and the children made fruit kebabs, trying fruit they may not have seen or been sure on, played with the jungle animals and printed with fruit. They also explored the lunar new year and learnt all about the different animals each year. They tried chinese food and loved it and took part in a wide range of activities all linked to the Lunar new year.

For our ‘Traditional Tales’ topic, the children learnt about the stories Jack and the Beanstalk and Goldilocks and the three bears. They made collage bear faces, explored the oats, made houses from the construction, measured different size chairs, explored the role play of the three bears house and also the small world area. Throughout the term the children used natural resources to make bear heads, painted portraits of the characters, measured beanstalks and learnt songs linked to our topics.

In addition to all of this, the children celebrated Holi, World Book Day and had a wonderful week learning all about our communities' jobs by having a ‘People who help us,’ week across the school. We have learnt about Easter, Valentines Day, French Day and we had lots of curious activities for ‘Science Week,’ as well as workshops with Flis from ‘The Art of Brilliance.’ Flis worked with the children on a range of wellbeing themes and created a lot of fun to help them look after each other and themselves.

Throughout the term, the children have continued with their sound work, developing their knowledge of phase 3 sounds and securing their skills in blending and segmenting to read and write words. They have begun to think, say and write their sentences and we have used a range of activities to develop oracy and handwriting. In maths, the children have explored pattern, measure and have worked hard on composition of number to 8, as well as doubling, counting in twos and subitising.

A fantastic Spring term. Well done Owls. You have all been amazing and it has been a pleasure to watch you grow and progress.
