Owls made a noise about bullying this week - 13/11/23

Date: 22nd Nov 2023 @ 12:44pm

This week was 'Antibullying Week' and the theme was 'Make a Noise About Bullying'. After our initial assembly about bullying and why it is so important not to stay quiet about bullying we 'made a noise' using bells this week. We had two sessions at the beginning of the week with our fantastic visiting bell ringing teacher Mr Joiner. On Monday he taught us how to make a sound with the bells and Tuesday we used our new bell ringing skills to play a tune....we wonder if you can guess what it was?! On Wednesday, key stage 2 children went to the church to explore the bell ringing from the large church bells so Owls went outside to listen carefully to them being rung. We also looked at kindness and what that looks like and how that feels. The children shared some fantastic ideas as to how to be kind and using painty hands, we made a kindness tree to stand proud in our classroom. Great job Owls!

In maths this week we have been comparing quantities and learning the associated mathematical language: 'more than', 'fewer than', 'equal to'. The children have been setting a picnic for Percy's animals and comparing the quantity of picnic items with the amount of animals. We have also been playing lots of games involving comparing quantities - great work Owls!

Throughout Literacy, we continued with our Percy the Park Keeper story, looking at what happens in the beginning, middle and end and the children also began to think about what the characters may have said. The children then started to write speech bubbles. In our phonics we continued with Phase 2 and the children enjoyed a range of activities to consolidate e, u, r as well as continue to practice their blending and segmenting for reading and writing.

In Forest School, the children enjoyed learning about fire safety and enjoyed warm squash and a snack around the campfire. We shared the story of "Stickman" and talk about what was happening in the story as well as passing around our very own Stickman.

Finally, we celebrated 'Children in Need,' by having a range of activities that were spotty. The children enjoyed developing their gross motor skills by hopping and jumping from spot to spot, colouring Pudsey pictures to develop fine motor control, making spotty shapes using the natural objects and making spotty pictures using the tap tap.

Fantastic week, well done Owls!
