It’s starting to get a bit Christmassy in Owls! -week beginning 20/11/23
Date: 22nd Nov 2023 @ 5:15pm
Owls have really enjoyed starting to practise our nativity play this week. On Monday they chose their parts and starting to think about how they would move on stage as their characters. We have put all their ideas together and started to practice our moves in the hall. They can’t wait to have a go on the stage soon! We hope you have received your costume letter that came home on Monday and that you are able to get a costume sorted for your child. If you have any difficulties with this please do let us know.
In maths this week we have been learning new words that will later help us when we explore the composition of numbers. We have been learning the words ‘part’ and ‘whole’. Later we will be using this language when we talk about part and whole numbers e.g. 3 and 2 are parts of the whole number 5. In order to understand this language we have been using it in more familiar contexts e.g. by putting parts of a puzzle together to make a whole picture; or by using construction parts to build a whole model. We have been exploring lots of toys that have detachable and nondetachable parts. Well done Owls you are starting to get a good grasp on this new mathematical language.
In Phonics this week, we have been continuing with phase 2 sounds h, b, f, ff. The children have finding ping pong balls with sounds on in amongst the leaves, they have been adding sound buttons to words, as well as finding words on leaves to read. In literacy we have been beginning to explore information texts and have been looking at features of hedgehogs, the children have labelled hedgehogs and pegged sound pegs as spikes on hedgehog backs, they have also used our beebot and made a route for him whilst saying the sounds that they pass.
In Forest School, we have had fun learning about hedgehogs and why they hibernate. The children then used the vast aount of leaves to make hedgehogs houses, others chose spikey leaves to stick onto their hedgehog shapes making fantastic leafy hedghogs and finally the children went and hammered in nails to make weaves, where they then went and chose leaves to weave into the bands. The weather was finally kind to us and the sun shone! What an awesome morning.
Finally we have had lots of fun in our explore time, the children have printed autumn leaves on trees, collaged woodland animals, made homes for woodland animals from duplo, built mazes like in the Percy the Park Keeper stories and played in the role play area.
Great week Owls! Have a wonderful weekend.
