Great week Owls!

Owls you are superstars! This week we have been busy learning Christmas play songs and working out a little routine for our shepherds and sheep. In phonics this week, we have been recapping all the phase 2 sounds but with a focus on i,m, n and d. We have had a nest full of eggs with sounds on and had to gently pick each one up using a spoon to read the sounds, we have had Sir Spy deliver a blank piece of paper, or so we thought, but using our magic paint, it revealed sounds and cvc words. We have also been building towers of sounds and we had a phonic disco!

In literacy, we have been continuing our learning about information texts and we have labelled parts of an owl to add to our information book. The children went on a hunt to find puzzle pieces of an owl and labels and then we put it all together, matching the label to the body part using string. Using our learnt phonic skills, we have had a go at labelling our own owl as well.

Within Maths this week, we have focused on more than, less than and the same as as well as understanding zero and the composition of 5. The children have been busy making playdough cookies, they have looked at our plate of cookies and the number card, and they have had to make more than that number, less than that number and the same as that number. They also developed the same skills by using bugs on leaves. They have also looked at how 5 is made up, they have split groups of 5 children between hoops as well as using counters and beanbags to develop the same skill. 

In addition to this we have sang lots of nativity songs, taken part in storysices and yoga and built homes for owls.
