Chinese New Year!

Date: 4th Feb 2022 @ 2:10pm

This week we have had lots of activities themed to, 'Chinese New Year.' We have incorporated it into the different areas of the curriculum, to allow children the opportunity to  learn in different ways and give purpose to the activities that they are taking part in. The children have furthered their fine motor control by placing red buttons on the different chinese dragons, they have painted dragon masks, made chinese dragons, explored chinese numbers and had a go at making them on whiteboards, they have also had the opportunity to make cards for their families saying 'Happy Chinese New Year,' and the children played in our Chinese market on the small world table using people and dragons also. To begin our theme, we talked all about what Chinese New Year is and the traditions that the families take part in. We then watched a clip all about the parades and we enjoyed a wonderful story all about the event. In our Music lesson, we used instruments to make a pulse while we paraded our HUGE chinese dragon around the playground.

In Phonics, we have continued to reinforce our digraphs (two letters that make one sound) ch, th, ng, qu and sh. We have used a range of activities such as online phonic games, bingo, being phonic detectives and highlighting sounds we find in words to read it, as well as using the parachute to roll a ball carefully onto a given sound.

Within our Maths lessons we have focused on measure. We have been using the mathematical terminology to support our learning, longer, shorter, taller, longest, shortest, big. The children have measured each other using large blocks and they have also made tunnels for their cars to make sure that they can get through. We have also made different playdough snakes and measured their length using linky links.

We have continued throughout the week with our dough gym, handwriting, number formation, storysices and daily mile.

It has been a very busy, creative and fun week. The children have loved learning about Chinese New Year, especially making our fantastic dragon!

Have a wonderful weekend. Well done Owls, such little superstars again.

See you all next week.
