Barn Owls Summer 2

Date: 11th Jun 2022 @ 8:52am

Week One - 6th-10th June

Welcome back to all the children for our final half term of the school year.

This week we have started our new topic of Around the world with Disney. The children have enjoyed various activities, including frozen yoga, dancing to our favorite Disney songs and learning and discussing the story of Finding Nemo. This has linked into focusing on World Ocean Day on Wednesday, where the children have created a beautiful under the sea display about keeping our oceans clean. We have learnt about the importance of recycling during forest school and within the classroom.

In RE Barn Owls have explored the Christian story of Noah’s Ark and created our own ark using the wooden construction blocks and animals. We sang the animals in 2 by 2.

We finished the week off by visiting the village church to see our Queen’s jubilee bunting on display.

Week Two - 13th-17th June

What a week of beautiful, summer weather we have had! Barn Owls have enjoyed spending lots of time outside exploring water, sand play and having lots of fun on the field.

This week we focused on the Disney film, The Lion King. We have looked at where Africa is on a map and discussed how we would travel there, the weather, animals and music. The children have thought of some amazing descriptive words - hot, savanna, red, ROAR, to name a few. We created a class handprint lion using the colors of Africa.

On Wednesday we enjoyed a visit from Bugfest. We got to see millipedes, snails, stick insects, grasshoppers, cockroaches and spiders. The children were smart scientists, learning many different facts about the different minibeasts and even got to hold them.

Week Three - 20th-24th June

This week we visited North America through the Disney film Cars. Using Google Earth we traveled from Hazelbury Bryan to Texas USA, discovering how far away the 2 places are. We discussed how different the landscapes are in both countries, comparing the fields of Hazelbury Bryan to the deserts of Texas, featured in Cars. We have enjoyed lots of racetrack role play and created our own paper plate Lightning McQueen.
