Barn Owls Spring 2

Date: 10th Mar 2022 @ 10:09pm

Week One - 28th February-4th March

What a very busy week we have had! We enjoyed tasting pancakes on Tuesday for pancake day and exploring pancake roleplay.

We had a fantastic day dressed in our pajamas on Thursday for World Book Day, reading lots of books and creating our own supertato from the book Supertato carnival Catastro-Pea!

During PSHE we have been learning about healthy and unhealthy foods and what effects they have on our body. We enjoyed choosing a healthy snack to take along to a teddy bears picnic and making juicy fruit kebabs.

Our new topic this term is People Who Help Us. We have started to explore how people in our community can help us in a variety of different roles, from shop assistants to firefighters.

Week Two - 7th-11th March

This week we have been learning all about shapes and exploring shapes in our environment. We have enjoyed feeding hungry shape monsters their matching shape and created shape houses and fire engines using squares, rectangles, circles and triangles.

Barn Owls have created some amazing models during block play sessions. Take a look at our houses, cars, fire engines and police cars.

The weather on Friday was very wet. We all decided to put on our waterproofs and go on a bear hunt for puddles. We found lots on the playground and enjoyed puddle jumping.

Week Three - 14th-18th March

This week we have been celebrating British Science Week. We enjoyed a visit from the science dome, exploring space, the stars and planets. In class we have carried out some science experiments, including colour mixing and magic milk. To create the magic milk experiment we used a dish of milk with a few drops of food colouring. We were all amazed with how the food colouring in the milk would move around when it came in contact with washing up liquid.

On Friday we celebrated Red Nose Day by joining in with a fun and exciting assembly with the whole school. Each class created a funny challenge for the teachers to participate and compete in.

Week Four - 21st-25 March

This week the sun has been shining. We have had lots of fun outside exploring the school grounds and beginning to plant sunflower seeds to make our playground look beautiful throughout the summer. All our daffodils are now in bloom and have been well watered by the children.

We have had a very exciting week learning about police officers. We were lucky enough to have a visit from PC Mckeeman. She talked to us about her job and how she helps people in our community. We enjoyed exploring a police officer's kit and even got to handcuff Claire!

We would like to thank MP Simon Hoare for introducing himself to Barn Owls during his school visit.

Week Five - 28th March-1st April

This week in forest school we learnt about fire safety and cooking on an open fire. We cooked our own apple and enjoyed some hot chocolate.

We had a fabulous visit on Thursday from nurse Romana, teaching us how to care for each other and how to look after poorly and injured people. Everyone enjoyed practicing first aid on their friends, applying bandages and slings.

On Friday we were lucky enough to meet Merlin the puppy springer spaniel. He was full of energy and enjoyed greeting us.
