Autumn is here in Owls- week beginning 6.11.23
Date: 8th Nov 2023 @ 9:46pm
We started off our week think about Bonfire night and fireworks. The children tried to think of as many words as they could to describe fireworks. They had some great words like ‘whistle’, ‘fizz’ and ‘sparkle’. The children all had a go at writing down some of their firework words, listening carefully to the could hear in the words they wanted to write. They also did some fantastic firework art work using a lot of glitter!
In Maths we have been focussing on the number 5. We have been exploring the fact that “we have five fingers on one hand”. The children have been finding five objects and matching to the fingers on their hands as well as going on a number hunt.
We have also been learning our tricky words, please check your child’s book bags for their ‘flower words’ and help them practice these at home, thank you. (See your child’s reading diary for game suggestions.)
In Phonics, we have been continuing to use the sounds that we have learnt to blend. We have read and wrote words using these skills. In Literacy, we have continued with our story of 'Percy and the Storm." The children have enjoyed making Percy's hut using the big bricks, colouring woodland animals, making Percy's face using natural objects and exploring our role play area.
In Forest School, the children looked for signs of Spring, talked about the changing colours of leaves and threaded leaves onto sticks carefully as well as getting very, very wet! The weather really isn't our friend at the moment!
We also discussed and explored 'Remembrance day.' The children took part in a range of activities to help them understand such as making Poppies using different constructions toys, colouring poppies, using red and black buttons to match the colours on the poppy and creating beautiful stained glass poppies that they can't wait to take home.
Finally we went on a fantastic trip to Kingston Lacy. These photos will be uploaded as a separate post.
Fantastic, super work Owls! You have been so busy. What superstars you are! Have a great weekend.
