Another Busy week in Owls beginning 27.11.23
Date: 23rd Dec 2023 @ 11:22pm
Owls have had another busy week practising our play and all the song words and actions. We hope you are looking forward to watching it as much as we are to performing it!
In maths we have been learning about the composition of numbers. We have been learning that whole numbers can be made up of different parts e.g. 2 and 2 make 4, but so does 1 and 3, as well as 4 and 0. The children have been exploring lots of different ways to make shapes and prints with just 4 blocks, or just 5 blocks. They have shown great exploring and problem solving skills, well done Owls.
In Phonics, we finished off our phase 2 sounds and practised writing these to develop our letter formation. We used our learnt sound to blend and segment words. We used sounds buttons on written words to help us read them. In our Literacy learning we started to think about non-fiction books, the children loved exploring these texts. We then gave the children a picture of an Owl and they used their fantastic sound work to write a short sentence with support about them.
Additionally the children have used natural materials to make Owl faces, used big blocks to make Owl homes and used the peg boards to make Owls as well.
Through PE, the children continued to work on their gymnastics skills. They develop their balance and coordination through a range of activities such as working as a team to create different shapes e.g. house, Christmas tree.
Finally due to the freezing conditions on Friday, the children and staff went out to the field on a welly walk to explore. We looked at the shapes that the frost makes, the noise that it makes and the feel of it too. We discussed our senses. The children found ice in various places and we talked about how it melts, as well as why our breath make steam in the air. This session was a great exploratory session and the children loved running around and rolling around in it as well as smashing lots of ice and freeing some trapped animals! We also took bubbles outside so that the children could try and pop as many as they could before they popped themselves or blew away. Lots of fun!
Great work Owls, you have been amazing!
